AA Speaker Jane D.
“If I live through this, I will dedicate my life to loving Service”
Jane D. is a 48-year-old, happily unmarried woman, from Tallahassee, that tells her emotional and painful journey of finding recovery, that she promises will leave you feeling good.
She grew up in an all-girls school, where she was always judgmental of those doing things such as drinking. Later, she moved off to Manhattan College, and had the typical "good catholic girl hitting the big city, and going buck wild experience", complete with daily drinking.
After meeting a wonderful guy in Florida, she gets into a one car drunk driving accident, that left him dead, and her in the hospital for five months. Her family said she had to go to AA, or she would be disowned. As a result of the accident, she was sentenced to five years in the state penitentiary, and lost her driver's license for life.
She decided that if god let her live through all of this, she would dedicate her life through loving service, and is a now a college professor, who teaches women’s issues, chemical dependency, and crisis intervention. What a wonderful story of hope and redemption!
